Schedule AppointmentTirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro® (approved for type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound® (approved for chronic weight management). Elevera Health may prescribe brand-name or compounded tirzepatide; compounded medications are prepared by licensed pharmacies and are not FDA-approved. Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injection that helps control appetite and blood sugar, with no surgery or procedures involved.
In clinical trials, tirzepatide lowered hemoglobin A1C levels and produced significant weight loss. It is designed to be used together with improvements in diet, sleep, and exercise, and works best with coaching and guidance from qualified clinicians such as the team at Elevera Health.
Tirzepatide works similarly to other GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide (Ozempic®), with some unique differences.
In most cases, 2.5 mg is the recommended starting dose for tirzepatide. After four weeks, the weekly dose may be increased in 2.5 mg steps, if tolerated, up to a maximum of 15 mg. Our clinicians set and monitor your dose and may adjust it to help you reach your goals for blood sugar control, weight reduction, and metabolic health.
In the SURMOUNT-1 clinical trial, adults taking the highest dose of tirzepatide lost an average of about 21% of their body weight over 72 weeks when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, compared with participants who took a placebo. In clinical trials it produced some of the largest average weight loss seen with medication.
Prescription weight loss medications may be an option if you are having trouble losing weight while following a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol, may be candidates.
